Merrium W. (Collyer) Ferwerda, 82 of Hanover died on Sunday May 10, 2009 at the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Facility after a period of failing health.
She was born in Hanover, daughter of the late Albert and Ruth (Robinson) Collyer and was raised and educated in Rockland. Prior to her retirement, Merrium worked assembling shoes as a “vamper” for many years for both the Stetson Shoe Company, and the Givern Shoe Company.
Mrs. Ferwerda enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and traveling with her beloved husband. Merrium's family and friends were always of the utmost importance to her.
Mrs. Ferwerda is survived by her husband Nicholas Ferwerda of Hanover and her sons, Nicholas C. Ferwerda and Albert Ferwerda both of Hanover. She was the sister of, Charles A. Collyer of Quincy, Ruth Chadwald of Rockland, Edith Ferguson of VA, Joan M. Gillis of Rockland, and Nancy J. Carle of Bridgewater and the late Carlton G. Collyer, Thomas W. Collyer, Owen F. Collyer, and Robert A. Collyer. Also surviving is her grandson, Michael D. Ferwerda, Sr. of Hanover. and a great grandson of Michael D. Ferwerda, Jr. of Hanover, an uncle, Earl Gardner of Hanover and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Thursday May 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Pinehurst Cemetery in Norwell. Calling hours will be on Wednesday May 13, 2009 from 5-8 PM.
