Herbert W. Tripp, 91 of Hanover died at the South Shore Nursing and Skilled Care Center on January 20, 2012. He was born in Brockton son of the late Roy and Gladys (Edwards) Tripp and was raised and educated in Whitman. Herb was a member of the Class of 1938 at Whitman High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He retired in 1983 after a 40 year career as a lineman for N.E. Telephone Co. working from their Brockton garage. Mr. Tripp was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a charter member of the Whitman VFW, a member and Past Master of Phoenix Lodge AF&AM in Hanover as well as the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Hanover serving as a Trustee and a member of the Diaconate.
Husband of Dorothy E. (Loud) Tripp, he is also survived by his daughters, Janice E. Ellsworth of Nantucket, Karen L. Tripp of Hanover and Linda E. Harkins of Kingston. He was the grandfather of Joshua Ellsworth, Ethan Ellsworth, Brooke Ellsworth, Andrew Harkins and James Harkins and the great grandfather to Addison and Caitlin Ellsworth.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Herb's life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 28, 2012 in the First Congregational Church of Hanover. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hanover Center Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Activities Fund c/o South Shore Nursing Home 90 North Ave. Rockland, MA 02370.
