Helen L. (Conroy) Kennedy, 71 of Abington died on Sunday May 3, 2009 at the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Peter J. and Anna J. (Mogan) Conroy and was educated in S. Boston graduating from S. Boston High School and later receiving her teaching degree at Boston State Teachers College. Helen later taught Jr. High in Brockton before retiring to raise her family. She remained active with her friends from college and looked forward to monthly “Club” gatherings.
A communicant of St. Bridget’s Church in Abington, she was a member of the Sodality of Our Lady and was a longtime CCD teacher.
Mrs. Kennedy was a Past President and board member of the Abington VNA, a Friend of the Abington Public Library and was active in
the Democratic Party serving as a Democratic Registrar for the town of Abington. She was a state convention delegate for several years and enjoyed participating in political forums and debates at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.
Wife of the late Thomas F. Kennedy, she is survived by her children Karen M. Kennedy-Tyus of FL, Kathleen K. Reilly of Abington, Patricia E. Visitainer of CT, Thomas F. Kennedy, III of CA and Sean P. Kennedy of Somerset. She was the sister of Peter B. Conroy of Wareham, Mary A. O’Neill of NY and the late Patrick J. Conroy and Eileen Campbell. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and several Nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Friday May 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. Bridget’s Church in Abington at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Rockland. Calling hours will be on Thursday May 7, 2009 from 5-8 PM.
